Nativity Round Gourd

This year, the Vatican Nativity scene is from Peru, and we decided to create a whole collection of Nativity scenes (retablo).

This Christmas gourd features 8 ceramic figurines in a Nativity scene, each one painted by hand and secured inside the hollowed-out space of the gourd. The gourd ornament was cut in the middle as a round, hand carved, painted, and polished by a family of artisans in Cochas, Peru.

The interior is painted a midnight blue and white to recreate the sky, while the exterior is covered with stars.

It took 3 days to the artisan to complete this art. Only available in red.

Ps. All our gourds are biodegradable, so when you consider that it’s time for its second life, please bury it in the ground (including the wood Shaquira), it will help as fertilizer and nutrients for the soil.
