After receiving the clothes, Alcira delicately selects the ones that will work for the scene design and the rest of the donated clothes are distributed to Alcira’s community. Therefore, ZERO WASTE, everything is either recycled into her artwork or reused by the community.
what is Arpillera technique?
This is a traditional work that has passed over generations, Arpillera means burlap in Spanish, is a brightly colored patchwork picture made predominantly by groups of women (also known as arpilleristas). Arpilleras are typically constructed from simple and recycled materials such as burlap and scrap materials, that they cut in different shapes to recreate scenes, habitats showing a normal urban or rural day that could bring joy, homesick or beautiful memories.
