If you haven’t seen Annie Leonard “The Story of Stuff” yet… find yourself 20 minutes and enjoy. The Youtube video is a great condensed version of the book (on my Amazon wishlist) of the same name. Leonard takes a step back from our materials economy to analyze the system of production and consumption taking into account the people, communities, environments and other stakeholders involved.
Though, I don’t agree with everything she says, she does raise a very valid point on how, as consumers, we stand at the far end of that system often losing site of how and from where our products come from. You’d think that with today’s technology, we’d have more information available and a better understanding of our stuff. Not the case. The video is simple, accessible, and she hits you with a lot details on the causes and effects of said system.
At Blossom Inspirations, we’re after the same thing. We want to simplify our production to consumption process down to the nuts & bolts. We want to recognize ALL the people involved, giving credit to the artisans who make our accessories and support them and their families over the long run. Finally, we want to take into account all of the effects we have, positive & negative, over our environment, doing the right thing to protect and conserve our natural resources to be replenished and enjoyed for years to come. Idealistic? You bet. It’s glad to hear other people like Annie Leonard on that same road. Definitely watch the free video and read the book if you get the chance.
